Which means "see you again" in Cree. Our experience here has been full of ups and downs but through it all, we have made some truly meaningful relationships here at Saddle Lake. We didn’t know what to expect when we started, and it was really only through the opportunities that the Lord provided for us that we were able to get to know many locals on a deeply personal level. We find that many times that they are open and willing to share their struggles, hopes and dreams to people they’ve only just met recently.
Last night a few of us had the opportunity to listen to someone share their struggles with life living on the reserve and their reason why they had to leave. They came back for personal reasons, but through talking with them, it was clear that it was hard for them to be back home. We had met this person briefly but never formally introduced ourselves, yet they openly shared about how their life was impacted by drugs and alcohol at a young age. However, after their best friend was killed, their life spiraled out of control trying to find a way past the pain. Eventually they managed to get a job out in the city and started to heal. The person also mentioned how before their friend died, they had started working out and reading the Bible, but hadn’t after their friend’s death. As we listened, we were so touched by their openness and we shared with them about how God will always be with us during hard trials and that we are not alone in our struggles. We had the opportunity to pray for this person afterwards. Please pray for them, that they will find comfort in being in God’s presence as well as motivation to achieve their dreams of returning to the reserve and doing good to improve it.
